Our bodies tell the story of our struggles to love and be loved.

Touch is at the foundation of our relational experience. Scientific evidence shows that attuned, caring touch is critically important for normal brain development as well as for healthy emotional and cognitive maturation throughout our lifespan. Integrating the body, brain, and nervous system with psychotherapy is now at the forefront of clinical advances for healing attachment wounds and early developmental deficits.

But with COVID-19 lifesaving touch has now become a source of danger. Telehealth challenges our capacity to use healing touch, jeopardizing this vital bridge to body-mind integration.

Learning Objectives:

  • Why touch is important
  • Key somatic skills necessary for working with attachment deficits
  • Simple client-centered touch techniques that you can teach to your clients when working online that support body-mind integration.
  • Using self-touch to connect a client with their neuroception, interoception, and proprioception, and ground their access to implicit memories
  • Teaching clients practical self-care exercises that stabilize their nervous system
